I’m Austin.
I’ve been a professional photographer in Des Moines, IA for almost a decade and every day of work still feels inspiring and new. I get to capture beautiful moments in breathtaking places and that’s not even the best part about my job. It’s the people I meet along the way makes this career what it is. Whether I’m working with a bride and groom to understand their vision for their wedding day or working with a commercial client to set their business apart through photography, the relational side is the most rewarding part. Whether we are working on interior, wedding, advertising or any other commercial photography project, I’m excited to work with you.
I think that’s why after graduating from University of Iowa with a Bachelors in Biology, I immediately went on to get my degree in Photography. It’s why meeting with wedding clients for the first (or second or third) time over a cup of coffee to hear about their relationship is one of the most valuable ways I prepare for their big day. It’s how new clients have become repeat clients and even good friends. I want to deliver images that go above and beyond, but what I really want is to leave you feeling great about how smooth—and even fun—the entire process was. And my photography style reflect that: I’m more interested in capturing meaningful moments than solely focusing on the trendy shots. I want these images to have depth, soul and a memory attached to them.
When I’m not shooting and editing photos, I teach Portraiture in the Photography Department at Des Moines Area Community College. My wife, Lauren, and I have spent the last year working on our home renovation and that has been an adventure and job in itself. I’m an avid fly fisherman and love to get out in nature whenever possible. Travel is a bonus that I love about my work and I jump at the chance to see new places in the name of photography.
